Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed track across the globe within 6 months. The song was a mix of pop and reggaeton that attracted attention to Latin Music, but also reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs mostly of Spanish languages, while the year the year 2016 featured four. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 of them. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix Despacito (2017), a number of bilingual remixes Despacito (2017) famous musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma in Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton stars were complaining about its inclination towards mainstream, but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, aimed to keep reggaeton evolving. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and others into his music.
